The first recognisable Thai kingdom was founded in Sukhothai in 1238, reaching its apex under King Ramkhamhaeng in the 14th century before falling under the control of the kingdom of Ayutthaya, which ruled most of modern-day Thailand as well as much of modern-day Laos and Cambodia, eventually absorbing the northern kingdom of Lanna. The Burmese stormed Ayutthaya in 1767, but King Taksin recovered and established a new capital at Thonburi. General Chakri, his successor, proceeded over the river to Bangkok and became King Rama I, the founding father of the Chakri dynasty that still controls (constitutionally) today.

A visit to Bangkok Ocean World is one of the most exciting things to do in Thailand. This aquatic park is an amazing wonderland housing some of the most enchanting and exotic marine animals from the deepest oceans.
