Optional activities such as boating on Periyar Lake, visiting spice plantations, bamboo rafting, trekking, and elephant riding are available for an additional fee. Check out of the hotel after an early breakfast and drive 170 kilometres (five hours) to Kumarakom, where you will check into a hotel. Go sightseeing in and around Kumarakom, a little backwater village set on the western sides of Vembanadu Lake. The backwaters cover an area of 900 square kilometres.
